Ultimate Layering: Get it right

Jewellery and how we wear it can transform our look immediately. The best way to do it? Wear a  bunch of jewellery together, one on top of the other, whether you're going for a chic, striking look or you just want to upgrade a more casual, everyday look.

This new trend, known as layering, is widely followed by many brands and designers. Sometimes, however, it can be difficult to achieve a nice aesthetic effect without looking "too much" or "too little". Therefore, we suggest some "stylistic principles" that will help you find the right balance for your jewellery combination.

1. Choose only one jewellery category
Layering with jewellery can involve necklaces, bracelets, earrings or rings. So, it is very important to choose which part of your body you want to show up the most and focus on that. For example, if you choose your neck and make a combination of many necklaces, it would be recommended not to "weigh down" your look with strong earrings or rings. Instead, opt for smaller and more subtle pieces to keep the layering balanced.

2. Experiment with different styles
Another step you shouldn't skip is to decide on the style of layering. Do you prefer something bold with a rock style, such as chunky chains, studded pendants or pointed edges? Or do you go for a more elegant and classy style with thin chains and subtle, cute charms? You can always mix and match different lengths, textures and styles, but make sure there is one element that harmoniously ties all the pieces together.

3. Try out different lengths and number of jewels
The number of jewels and the size/length of each one are also significant. For example, the minimum jewelry you need for the neck is three necklaces, preferably with different lengths each. The ideal length for the first chain is about 35 cm and since it's the first piece that draws the most attention, it's a good idea to add a personal touch. This can be a necklace with a name, a letter or a small pendant. Going from there, the rest of the layering pieces can be either a few more chains or various pendants in a variety of colours, volumes and styles.

4. Figure out the "statement jewel"
In order to achieve a striking combination, you need a centrepiece that will catch someone's eye and tie the ensemble together. This piece should be placed in the middle of the layering and should be the most vibrant and colourful. This will also determine the choice of colours for the other elements. For example, if your centerpiece has a metallic base with turquoise stones, you should keep the rest of your chains silver, metallic and black.
